The number of possible different gametes via re-assortment depends on the number of different pairs of chromosomes present (usually called x):
For x=n: 2 n possible gametes, of which 2 are parental, and 2 n -2 are “"re-assorted". This number can get very large!
For example, in bread wheat, x=21, so the number of possible re-assortments is 221-2 > 2,000,000
